TMH to manufacture new double-deck restaurant cars

double-deck restaurant car TMH obtained the approval from the Acceptance Committee for the production of a 50-unit pilot batch of Model 61-4525 double-deck restaurant car.

The Committee included representatives from Federal Passenger Company, Russian Railways’ Passenger Planning and Design Technological Bureau, Russian Railways’ Central Laboratory, Center of Technological Audit, TMH Engineering, VNIIZT, and some suppliers.

To be launched into commercial operation, the new rolling stock must first be certified to comply with the Customs Union Technical Regulations.

The restaurant cars are designed to complement double-deck trains consisting of Model 61-4523 and 61-4524 and are manufactured at TMH plant in Tver.

Compared to the previously rail cars, the new car received an updated body giving the interiors more space and a pneumatic suspension for a smoother ride.

The first floor accommodates a kitchen, a washing station, and a 4-person bar. The second floor accommodates a dining hall for 36 seats. The car carries a 3000-liter fridge and a 700-liter freezer. The lift expedites the exchange of food and dishes. The sanitary section of the car has two eco-bathrooms with a shower and a separate garbage disposal station.

For the first time, the restaurant car is outfitted for the operator to serve ticketed passengers. All seats on the second floor are numbered and have elbow rests. The car also has luggage shelves and a shelf for oversized luggage.

The first double-deck restaurant car of Model 61-4473 was made by TMH in 2013. It featured a number of innovative solutions, such as dish lifts and convection heaters that allowed for faster food turnaround. The average service life of the car is at least 40 years and the warranty period for the operation of the car is 2 years from the date of shipment to the customer. The Tver rail cars are designed to run at a maximum speed of 160 km/h.

In July, TMH received the conformity certificate for safety requirements for its new double-deck passenger cars of Model 61-4523 and Model 61-4524 (staff car).
