The first phase of Ahmedabad metro inaugurated

India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, launched the transport services of the first phase of Ahmedabad metro, at Vastral Gam station.
“This is an historic day, as the dream of Ahmedabad Metro has come into fruition. The metro will provide a convenient and environment friendly mode of transport for the people in Ahmedabad. Before 2014, there was only 250 km operational network of metro in the country, while now there is 655 km.
The 6-km metro connection is part of the 40 km line of which 6.5 km is underground and the rest is elevated section. The line has two corridors, one from Vastral to Thaltej Gam and the second one, from Gyaspur depot to Motera stadium. The will provide transport services on East-West and North-South directions.
At the ceremony, Modi has also laid the foundation stone for the second phase of the Ahmedabad Metro Motera cricket stadium to Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar.
In February, the Prime Minister approved the implementation of project’s second phase envisaging the Gandhinagar – Motera section. The 28-km line needs an investment of USD 777 million (Rs 5,523 crore).
