Wiener Lokalbahnen unveils the design of the new LRVs

Wiener Lokalbahnen has presented the design of the new light rail vehicles which will be supplied by Bombardier under a EUR 94 million contract for 18 Flexity trams for Vienna.
The first TW500 series of vehicles are to be commissioned successively from 2021 until 2023 and will replace the old TW100-type vehicles.
The 28m-long LRVs have wider windows, innovative light system, air conditioning system and are very accessible.
The interior design is currently under preparation, but it is planned a flexible and wider interior, which will take into account the needs of passengers with reduced mobility.
“Greater comfort for passengers is a key factor in enhancing public transport and green mobility. The new Badner Bahn not only looks great, but also thrills passengers with accessibility, air conditioning and WLAN on board,”Vienna’s Executive City Councillor, Ulli Sima, said.
Under the contract signed with Bombardier in December 2018, there is an option for 16 additional LRVs. The contract also includes the 24-year FlexCare maintenance management system, but the work is carried out directly by the employees of Wiener Lokalbahnen at company’s own workshops.
