Uzbekistan and Tajikistan restore cross-border rail line

The presidents of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Emomali Rahmon, inaugurated oficially the restored Uzbek section of the Galaba-Amuzang-Khoshadi cross-border railway line. The Galaba-Amuzang line was closed in November 2011, when the Uzbek side dismounted the railway tracks on its part.
Up until today, the two countries were connected only by the Kudukli-Bekabad railway line. The Amuzang railway station will now become a new linking point. For that purpose, all the required conditions were created at the station for the border and customs service workers.
The railway line will play an important part in development of transit traffic, creating new possibilities for access to Turkmenistan and Afghanistan. It will also promote development of passenger transit and increase the trade turnover between the two states.
