Ukraine: railways implement solar energy projects

05-ucrainaIn 2015, the Lviv railroad division will install 27 solar collectors to provide warm water for workers and save natural gas, coal and electricity.
Solar heaters will begin to be used first at the station Truskavets, then, in the second quarter of this year, at the Lviv locomotive depot-West and at the locomotive depot Zdolbuniv and Kovel. Another solar collector  will be put into operation at passenger car depot Chernivtsi.
In the third quarter of 2015, solar collectors will be installed at the railcar depot in Zdolbuniv, and in the fourth quarter on the Ivano-Frankivsk and Uzhgorod track and the BA-5.
In addition, the Lviv railway will reduce the use of coal for heating water by replacing it with wood waste.
The implementation of alternative and renewable energy sources will allow the railway to save almost 900 thousand hryvnias (39,000 euros) in 2015.
