Two new underground stations in Bucharest

Although it covers only 3.7% of the length of the entire Bucharest public transportation network, by offering a superior capacity of transportation in comfort, regularity and safety traffic conditions, Metrorex ensures the transport of approximately 20% of the total volume of passengers using the public transport means. The Bucharest underground average transports at the present moment is over 600,000 passengers per working day and over 12 million passengers in one month.

It is the most used and the most appreciated public means of transport in Bucharest and since July 1st it has added on the network map two underground
stations. It is the underground stations Jiului (Pajura) and Parc Bazilescu, both of them belonging to the Underground Line 4. It is the newest underground line, being inaugurated in 2000 and included in the Underground Line Gara de Nord – Parc Bazilescu, the works being continued to the station Laminorului and Lac Străuleşti, the latter being in fact the end of the line.
„The works for the Underground Line 4 will continue from the station Parc Bazilescu to Lac Străuleşti, and in the autumn we will open the tender for the work execution of approximately RON 800 Million (approximately EUR 188 Million). The tender refers to the design and execution of stations Laminorul and Lac Străuleşti. I hope that in autumn we begin structure works from the station Parc Bazilescu to Străuleşti and in two years and a half we inaugurate two other underground stations”, declared Gheorghe Udrişte, General Manager Metrorex.
Tunnelling and work at the two stations were completed in the second half of 2010 and finishing and equipment works began in January 2011. A draft law presented for the approval of the Government of Romania in May by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure stipulates the expansion of the central dispatch centre (operational centre).
The Spanish company Invensys Rail Dimetronic will provide Metrorex the technology for the signalling system for the
purpose of expanding the Underground Line 4.
Thus the supplier will deliver a signalling system for the two stations, Jiului and Parc Bazilescu. Furthermore, the entire Underground Line 4 is equipped with the technology provided by Dimetronic since 2000.
The company will install ATP (Automatic Train Protection) system and ATO (Automatic Train Operation) system, the Passenger Information System. The contract also includes the update of the line control centre and the signalling systems. Dimetronic will also provide the uninterrupted energy system and the distribution energy system in the two stations. Invensys Rail Dimetronic will have to complete the works within 12 months from date of signature of the contract in June, this year.
„The optimal signalling and automation solutions for the new lines must take into consideration and be compatible with those of the remaining network with are nevertheless highest in terms of technology at a global level”, also adds the General Manager Metrorex.
