Transnet opened a new wagon repair facility

Transnet’s new R30 million (EUR 2 m) wagon repair facility at De Aar Is (town in the Northern Cape, South Africa) employing a staff of 47 initially, of whom 22 were recruited locally. It is estimated that about 300 direct and indirect jobs will be created through the facility eventually.
With a production capacity of 250 wagons annually, it will function as a satellite workshop for Transnet Engineering’s Beaconsfield Depot in Kimberley. The facility was officially opened by public enterprises minister Lynne Brown and Northern Cape Premier Sylvia Lucas.
