Toronto-York Spadina trackwork metro extension completed

metro lineToronto Transit Commission has announced the completion of track installation for the Toronto-York Spadina metro extension. The project involved the instalation of 17.4 km of track and four sections of special track.
The Toronto-York Spadina project is an 8.6-km extension of the Toronto Transit Commission’s (TTC) Line 1 from its present terminus at Downsview Station to the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre at Highway 7 in York Region. It will have six new metro stations, three new commuter parking lots and a TTC, York Region and GO bus terminal.
The Government of Canada has committed up to CAD 697 million (USD 482.5 million) to the project, the Province of Ontario has provided CAD 870 million (USD 602.3 million). The City of Toronto will contribute CAD 907 million (USD 628 million) and The Regional Municipality of York will contribute CAD 606 million (USD 419.5 million) towards total project costs.
“The Toronto-York Spadina metrou extension will provide metro service beyond regional boundaries for the first time. Another important milestone has been reached for the subway extension that will enable people to spend less time commuting and more time with their friends and families,” Ontario Transport Minister Steven Del Duca said.
