Three-stage plan for Munich S-Bahn

Munchen-S-bahn_imageBavarian Railway Company (BEG) unveiled a three-stage long-term plan for the operation of the 434km Munich S-Bahn network, confirming DB Regio subsidiary S-Bahn Munich will continue to run the system until at least the end of the decade. BEG will award S-Bahn Munich an interim contract which will run from December 2017 when the current deal expires until December 2019, when a new long-term contract covering the entire network comes into effect. A second city centre S-Bahn tunnel will be completed half way through the contract term in 2025.
Thus, the three-stage plan follows as:
From January 2018 to the current S-Bahn-contract, which ends in December 2017 follows a two-year transitional agreement.
From December 2019 the BEG stipulates a 1st Munich S-Bahn Treaty
Early 2030s-years after the commissioning of the second main line and the replacement of the existing vehicle fleet by new vehicles as well as a stabilization phase for the new operating concept with a significantly expanded transport service the BEG wants the transport services in a second Munich S-Bahn Treaty again for assigned prospectively. The treaty should last about twelve years and is aiming for a division of the network into several lots.
„We have the public procurement, planning, technical and competitive conditions for a contract of Munich S-Bahn, given the complexity and importance of this network with the help of external experts analyzed and finally decided on this three-step plan,” explains Johann Niggl, Managing Director of BEG.The aim is, in principle, that the „S-Bahn Munich ” should for be attractive for the competitors of DB Regio.
