Taiwan to buy 16 intercity trains

TaiwanNippon Sharyo and Sumitomo Corporation announced that they have received an additional order of 16 intercity trains of the TEMU2000 series model from Taiwan. The contract is valued at 3.3 billion yen (USD 27.4 million).
Previously, the 2 companies supplied Taiwan with 136 intercity trains of the TEMU2000 series model between 2011 and 2012. The TEMU2000 series model is an aluminium body train that has 8 cars in a trainset.
From February 2013, the trains have been in operation as the “Tze-Chiang Limited Express” travelling between Changhua, Taipei, Hualien and Taitung. The TEMU2000 series model is a tilting train so that it can travel at high speeds on curved tracks.
