SZDC equips 42 line sections with railway vehicles diagnostics

06-szdcCzech railway infrastructure manager SZDC introduced a system of diagnostics of railway vehicles running on many line sections. The project included the installation of 42 new indicators including evaluation workplaces and a control system with a task to evaluate measured values from a long-term point of view.
“The project consists of two parts aggregated into a connected system, more specifically the installation of indicators and their control system. An important asset of the installation was especially increasing rail transport safety by uncovering hot boxes, brakes, tyres and flat wheels in time”, said Pavel Surý, Director General of SŽDC.
The project allowed increasing transport availability, fewer train delays caused by lately uncovered or unfound defects, fewer fires near the line, lesser wear out of the rails and other parts of the railway superstructure as well as avoiding rail fractures.
The project was co-financed by the European Union from its Cohesion Fund under the Operational Programme Transport up to a maximum amount of CZK 391 million (EUR 14.4 million). The total estimated costs of the project amounted to CZK 500 million (EUR 18.5 million).
