South Africa: Transnet to invest in large scale maintenance plan

03-south africaFreight rail and logistics operator Transnet will start a large scale maintenance plan, valued at R176 million (EUR 72,000 ). The project will involve the replacement of more than 50,000 sleepers and the installation of 204 new rails and will require the shutting down of its manganese rail line between the Eastern Cape and Northern Cape provinces.
“Planning for this operation is a meticulous process and depends on participation from several cross functional departments within Transnet Freight Rail, as well as the involvement of numerous third parties,” Transnet Freight Rail spokesman Mike Asefovitz said.
