Seattle: East Link LRT construction launched

seattleWorks on the East Link LRT project that will connect Seattle, Mercer Island, Bellevue, Overlake has been launched. The 22.5 km line has 10 stations that are scheduled to open in 2023 as part of more than 48.2km of light rail extensions.
The value of the project is EUR 3.7 billion, with a USD 1.3 billion comming from the Transportation Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (TIFIA) loan from the U.S. Department of Transportation.
“We begin connecting the east and west sides of Lake Washington with high-capacity light rail—a project that will revolutionize travel to and from the Eastside. East Link will provide a quick, reliable trip from downtown Bellevue to downtown Seattle, delivering mass transit that will transform our region,” Sound Transit Board Chair said.
