Romania completed the documentation for the procurement of 40 electric units

The estimated value for this first batch is EUR 230 million and will be financed through the Operational Programme Large Infrastructure (POIM) 2014-2020.
The Romanian Railway Reform Authority and the European Investment Bank JASPERS (Joint Assistance to Support Projects in European Regions) completed the tender documents for the procurement of the first batch of 40 regional electric units, RE-R, and their maintenance for a period of 15 years. The documentation forsees the order for another batch of 40 electric units.
The new regional electric units will be used for commercial service on the electrified railways of the Romanian rail network, using energy from the overhead line of 25 kV, 50 Hz and will run on the standard gauge railways of 1435 mm, capable to reach speeds of 160 km/h. According to requirements, the new rooling stock will provide a transport capacity of 200 to 250 passengers.
This rolling stock is dedicated to rail passenger transport in suburban and regional traffic.
The prior information notice was published in SICAP (Romania’s Public Procurement Information System) and JOUE and is now waiting for the review and validation of the tender documentation by Romania’s National Public Procurement Agency (ANAP).
The regional electric units will have to meet the requirements stipulated in the technical interoperability specifications.
Tenders for the other types of rolling stock used in rail traffic on electrified and non-electrified railways will also be organised at a later stage.
