Railpool signs agreement for 250 Vectrons

AC and DC Vectron locomotivesRailpool and Siemens Mobility have concluded a framework agreement for the supply of up to 250 locomotives with a firm order for 70 vehicles which includes the delivery of AC and DC Vectron locomotives. Under the first call, Siemens Mobility will deliver 24 multisystem locomotives for use in AC and DC networks, as well as 46 AC locomotives.

With this order, Railpool’s Vectron fleet will grow to a total of 228 locomotives. The framework agreement includes Vectron variants that can operate in up to 16 countries and on various European rail corridors on north-south and east-west axis.

“The recent expansion of our modern fleet is taking place with a forward-looking focus on maximum operational flexibility for our customers. In addition to the multi-system locomotives for east-west traffic, we are adding further AC locomotives to our range, primarily for the Scandinavian corridor and the DACH region. Like the MS locomotives, the AC locomotives are also perfectly equipped for the upcoming ETCS expansion in Europe,” Torsten Lehnert, CEO of Railpool said.

Depending on variants – AC and DC Vectron locomotives – the vehicles for Railpool have an output of 6.4 megawatts and can reach a top speed of up to 230 km/h. They are also equipped with the necessary national train protection systems as well as the European Train Control System (ETCS).

In January 2022, Railpool and Siemens Mobility signed a framework agreement for the supply of  100 locomotives with a first call for 70 locomotives. The various locomotive variants will be used on different European rail corridors and can be operated in up to 18 countries. Railpool previously ordered 20 Vectron MS locomotives from Siemens Mobility in August 2021. They have a maximum power at wheel of 6.4 megawatts and are able to run at a top speed of 200 km/h and are also equipped with the European Train Control System (ETCS) allowing rail operation on the different European rail networks.
