Railpool opens its Italian business

Railpool Branch Italia Railpool has launched its Railpool Branch Italia seen as a “commitment to the Italian market, as basis for a future expansion in all Southern Europe”, Torsten Lehnert, CEO of Railpool GmbH said.

The Italian business has officially started the operations by signing an agreement to lease 6 new Bombardier Traxx E494 with Last Mile to Captrain Italia, with an option for additional 2 units. The agreement comes together with the announcement of a partnership agreement signed between Tiber.co OMR and Railpool Branch Italia for the supply of maintenance services to Railpool locomotives. The leasing company will provide training and spare parts to Tiber.co OMR to execute maintenance of Railpool fleet in its Asti depot, which will become one of the main maintenance hubs of in the country.

“We are happy to welcome Railpool as our partner both as Captrain supplier and Tiber.co OMR customer. This strong cooperation will allow Captrain and Tiber.co OMR to further grow in terms of fleet but also for what experience and competence are concerned. We trust this will be the beginning of a long-term cooperation between our companies”, Mauro Pessano, CEO of Captrain Italia said.

The locomotives will start their operations in January 2021 and will be used by Captrain on the domestic Italian market. The Last Mile functionality of the locomotives will allow Captrain to serve non electrified lines such as industrial hubs and terminals, increasing the transport flexibility.

Railpool operates in 16 European countries and is one of the largest rolling stock full service leasing providers in Europe with a fleet of more than 400 locomotives with a total investment of EUR 1 billion.
