Prague launches construction of the fourth metro line

Prague authorities have inaugurated the construction of the fourth metro line which is expected to be completed in eight years. The estimate cost of the project is CZK 70 billion (more than EUR 2.7 billion).

The line called “D” will include nine stations and will connect the city centre to the city’s south-east districts. The line will start from the existing Namesti Mire station (on Line A). This station will be an interconnection centre for passengers. The route of the new line will also intersect Line B in Olbrachtova station and Esko Prague network, the S-Bahn commute network, at Praha-Krč station. The project will be carried out by Metrostav, the contractor specialising in the construction of metro lines, and includes the construction of a train depot and Písnice area. According to Prague officials, Line D will be served by driverless trains.
