When the current franchise with ViaPorto ends in 2017, the underground system Metro do Porto will be offered as a public-private partnership, according to the local press. Portugal’s government has decided to seek a private partner to jointly run Metro do Porto.
Metro do Porto had been offered to Transdev last year, but the privatization was reversed by the new government which came to power early this year and operation of the network returned to ViaPorto. ViaPorto is a consortium headed by Barraqueiro, the Portuguese transport group.
