Poland: Mazowieckie Railways to purchase 71 EMUs

Koleje MazowieckieEuropean Investment Bank has under appraisal two projects of Mazowieckie Railways, Poland. The projects involve the purchase of 71 EMUs that will be used in Mazowieckie Region and the construction and modernisation of maintenance depots in Sochaczew and Radom.
The total value of the two projects is PLN 2 billion (EUR 463 million) and the proposed EIB finance is PLN 500 million (EUR 116 million).
Company’s rolling stock project includes the acquisition of 10 2-car EMUs and the purchase of up to 61 5-car EMUs. The project represents the replacement, by purchase, of a significant share of the company’s overall fleet of 243 EMUs (150 new or modernised units, 93 to be replaced or modernised).
The second project involves the construction of a depot in Radom for the new 10 2-car EMUs and the extension and modernisation of the depot in Sochaczew.
Mazowieckie Railways manages the passenger rail transport in the Warsaw agglomeration and the rest of the Mazowieckie voivodeship (east-central Poland), as part of an integrated public transport system.
