PKP PLK starts rail bridge construction across Vistula

The railway bridge across Vistula river entered the most important construction stage, as the assembly of the main elements of the structure has begun, PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe announced. The construction of a new railway bridge in Krakow is proceeding according to schedule. The contractor is preparing to work on three spans, which are the most important part of the new facility. The elements in the shape of arches will be installed. In total, the arches of the bridge will consist of 42 parts. All together they weigh about 940 tonnes.
After works will be completed, the trains will be able to run through Vistula river with speeds of 100 km/h.
The bridge is an important infrastructure element for Krakow railway network for which, PKP PLK builds two additional tracks that will relief the railway traffic.
The main construction works will be completed in 2020. The value of the project is PLN 1 billion (EUR 233.55 million) and is co-financed by the CEF under the “Works on the E30 railway line on the Kraków Główny Towarowy – Rudzice section along with the extension of agglomeration line tracks” project.
