PKP Intercity orders new carriages

State-owned railway operator PKP Intercity has placed an order for 55 new carriages with the Polish firm H. Cegielski-FPS. The total cost of the order is PLN 473.5 million (EUR 113 million). In addition PKP Intercity has options to purchase a further 26 carriages, which would bring the deal’s total value to PLN 697 million (EUR 167 million).
The order includes a mixture of both first and second class carriages, as well as some carriages with compartment seating. All carriages will have air conditioning and Wi-Fi.
The contract forms part of an ongoing modernization plan at PKP Intercity. The company expects to spend a total of PLN 7 billion (EUR 1.7 billion) on rolling stock in the coming years.
