North South Railway a priority in Iran

The Gorgan-Incheh Boroun-Turkmenistan railway linking Kazakhstan with Iran’s Persian Gulf ports is a major priority, writes IRNA, quoting Director General of the North Railway Department Yussef Geran Pasha.
The line will carry up to 3 million tonnes of grain via Persian Gulf ports to the rest of the world once complete, a significant portion of the annual grain harvest of Commonwealth of Independent States’ annual harvest. It will have a capacity of 10 million tonnes annually, and will significantly boost the Iranian economy.
90% of the railway linking Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Iran is complete, and the railway should be put into operation within the next 12 months.
