Newag wins Warsaw EMU tender

Warsaw suburban railway operator, SKM Warszawa, awarded Newag a contract for the delivery of 21 electric multiple units, including maintenance services for 7 years and training of SKM employees.

Under the tender, Newag submitted a PLN 667.9 million (EUR 155.8 million) offer. All vehicles should be delivered no later than November 2022.

Newag will deliver 15 vehichles with a length of 85 and 95 metres, while 6 EMUs will have a length of 70 to 77 metres. The new EMUs will be air-conditioned and will be equipped with monitoring and modern passenger information systems, ticket validators and ticket vending machines, Wi-Fi and USB chargers. They will be fully adapted to the passengers with reduced mobility.

“We can officially confirm that Newag will supply the new trains for SKM Warszawa, the manufacturer fulfilled all requirements, both in terms of the parameters of ordered vehicles and the amount of the order,” Alan Beroud, the chairman of SKM Warszawa, said.

In October 2019, SKM Warszawa canceled the EMU contract with Pesa Bydgoszcz, due to non-compliance with the train delivery schedule, being the most important criterion to obtain European financing. Pesa should supply the operator 23 EMUs but faced delivery delays.
