New rail service between Antwerp and Linz

07-antwerpRail Cargo Group (RCG), the freight division of ÖBB, recently introduced a rail connection for distributed transport of conventional freight between Antwerp and Linz. The new connection is operated in collaboration with the Belgian private rail operator Railtraxx and the Antwerp company Rail & Sea NV.
Railtraxx is responsible for the operational transport between Linz and Antwerp North station and for the onward distribution in Belgium. In its turn, Rail & Sea NV provides the operational control on the Belgian network and also takes care of the marketing.
“The shuttle between Antwerp and Linz forms the basis for an integrated, global solution that we wish to offer to industry, connecting the South-East European hinterland with an important region such as Antwerp. This partnership gives us direct access to a large number of terminals in this region, and also enables to make use of the extensive RCG rail network with existing rail services to Hungary, Slovakia, Turkey, Northern Italy, Greece, Romania and elsewhere,” explained Rail & Sea NV managing director Edwin Moehlig.
The train travels at least three times per week in both directions, covering the route in less than two days. It carries not only conventional freight but also containers and RID freight.
