Lithuania will develop a LGN powered locomotive

Lithuanian Railways, Bega a private Lithuanian stevedoring company, Klaipeda Oil, Vilnius Gediminas Technical University and Klaipeda University signed an agreement for the development of LNG powered locomotive. The liquefied natural gas locomotive will open up the possibilities for the use of cleaner fuels and to reduce fuel consumption.
“By combining science, business, financial and human resources, we will be able to create the best conditions for the use of cleaner energy rail transport,” Mantas Bartuška the general director of Lithuanian Railways said.
The locomotive will run from the port’s railway station to stevedoring companies, with plans to extend the distance in the future.
It is planned that the implementation of this project will allow to reduce the energy resources to 40 percent.
