Latvijas Dzelzcels records drop in profit

06-rzdLatvian national rail company Latvijas Dzelzcels (LDz) achieved EUR 217.8 in net turnover in 2015. Compared to 2014, net turnover fell by 3.1%. LDz posted a profit of EUR 2.1 million after taxes, which was less by EUR 8.6 million than the previous year.
The drop in profit is also a consequence of the fact that the company made considerable investments in the share capital of its subsidiary, LDZ Infrastruktura. The overall capital investments made in the company last year was EUR 217 million, which was the largest ever yearly investment volume in the company’s history. 65.8% of these investments came from EU funds, 3.6% were the company’s own investments, while 30.6% were loans.
The company transported 17.1 million passengers and 55.6 million tons of cargo in 2015. Compared to 2014, passenger turnover dropped by 11.2%, and cargo turnover fell by 2.4%.
