Latvia interested in railway cooperation with Lithuania

03-lituaniaLatvian Prime Minister Maris Kucinskis underscored Latvia’s interest in rebuilding the Mazeikiai-Renge railway section between Latvia and Lithuania, during the meeting with his Lithuanian counterpart Algirdas Butkevicius. “This is an important issue, considering the potential transit cargo transportation from Mazeikiai,” he said.

In his turn, during the meeting with Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai general director Stasys Dailydka, Edvins Berzins, the new head of Latvijas Dzezcels, agreed to hold regular meetings to continue joint projects, such as cooperation in cargo transportation between Latvia’s container train Zubr and Lithuania’s container train Viking. “It is not a secret that cargo volumes are declining also in Lithuania, therefore we have to cooperate closer,” said Edvins Berzins.
