JR East launches large-scale renovation of Shinkansen infrastructure

japonia-jr eastJR East announced it has prepared a plan for the allowance provision for the large-scale renovation of Shinkansen infrastructure, a project that was submitted to the Minister of Transport on February 17, 2016.
According to the plan, from April 2016 until March 2031, the total amount is JPY 360 bilion (EUR 2.9 billion), and from April 2031–March 2041, the value of the projects is estimated at JPY 1 trillion (EUR 8.3 billion).
The projects include works for bridges renovation, lining renovation works for tunnels and slope protection renovation works.
‘With respect to the Tohoku Shinkansen Line, between Tokyo–Morioka, and the Joetsu Shinkansen Line, between Omiya–Niigata, which JR East owns, the need for large-scale renovation is to ensure reliable transportation,’ JR East says.
