Jordan launches tenders for three railway projects

Jordan Railways_imgid199767Transport Minister Lina Shbeeb said that the ministry has a plan of establishing railway connections nationwide at an estimated cost of two billion dinars (USD 2.8 billion).
Shbeeb said the plan comprises a group of packages, the first related to the rail section between Aqaba and Ma’an governorates with the land port in Ma’an, the second linking Amman and Ma’an with the port in the capital Amman and the third package between Amman and Mafraq while the port will be in Mafraq.
The Minister added that there will be no competition among the land ports due to their different sizes and functions, stressing the importance of cooperation with the private sector to make this project a success.
On Jordan-Iraq transport challenges, Shbeeb said a delegation from the Transport Ministry along with representatives from private sector is scheduled to visit Iraq next week to discuss challenges facing land and air transport between the two countries.
