Iran- Afghanistan line to be operational next year

The railway networks of Iran and Afghanistan will be connected in 2018, Hossein Ashouri, the Iran Railway Company deputy head for operation affairs, said, Mehr News Agency reports.
Until now, Iran has been constructed the double track line to the Afghanistan border and the Afghanistan’s section will be completed next year.
Ashouri said sub-grade of one of the tracks has been laid by 50 percent, while the second track’s sub-grade is only 25 percent ready.
The line will link Khaf, Iran, with the Herat, the third-largest city of Afghanistan.
According to estimations, the line will boost the volume of trade between Iran and Afghanistan as it currently stands at USD 2 million a year and it will reach to USD 6 million.
