India’s Western Dedicated Freight Corridor electrification contract awarded

western corridorDedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India awarded a consortium of Sojitz Corp., Japan and Larsen and Toubro Limited the electrification contract of on 422 km of Western Dedicated Freight Corridor, on Vadodara- Jawaharlal Nehru Port rail section. The values of the contract is Rs 12.13bn (USD 179 million).
The project involves the construction of 7 power substations , 897 single-track-km of catenary, 40 switching stations, operational control centre and Scada works at 12 stations. The line will be equipped with 2x25kV AC electrification.
In November 2014, Larsen and Toubro Ltd won the electrification contract for a 915 km section of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor. The value of this contract is JPY 50 billion (USD 424.45 million).
The consortium is already involved in the construction of 626 km of a double track corridor from Rewari in Haryana to Iqbalgarh in Gujarat, via Rajasthan, spanning three states. This is the country’s largest project awarded so far in the rail sector and the fi rst-of-its-kind in India.
