Hong Kong to open the Express Rail Link

MTR Corporation announced that on 23 September 2018 will launch transport passenger services on Express Rail Link. The line is the Hong Kong section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link, offering rail connection to the high-speed rail network in the Mainland of China.
MTR Corp was appointed as the HSR operator for a concession period of 10 years.
“High Speed Rail will open a new page in rail travel in Hong Kong and will impact positively on the city’s economic development by enhancing Hong Kong’s connectivity with the Mainland. With the confirmation from the Government of the HSR being safe and sound for passenger service, we are fully geared up for the commissioning of this new line on 23 September. Although there will inevitably be challenges in launching a new railway service, we are confident of providing a safe and efficient HSR service and managing any teething issues that may arise,” Frederick Ma, Chairman of MTR Corporation said.
The 26-km Express Rail Link is vitally important to Hong Kong. It will link Hong Kong with major Mainland cities with significantly reduced travelling times. The project will reinforce Hong Kong as the southern gateway of the Mainland. It will play an unparalleled role in fostering closer social and economic ties between Hong Kong and the Mainland, injecting momentum and creating new opportunities for future development in the medium and longer term.
