Hitachi completes the construction of the first new metro train of Honolulu

HonolululCaricoPittsburg_1Hitachi Rail Italy has finished the setting up of the first out of 20 vehicles with 4 cars planned for the new metro of Honolulu.
The production had started in recent months at the factory in Reggio Calabria, in Italy, where the cars structures had been built and assembled, to be then completed and equipped with all the planned technological innovations. The metro does have the peculiarity of being driverless.
Within the contract, AnsaldoSTS leads the Joint Venture Ansaldo Honolulu JV, that includes HRI who is in charge of the construction of the entire vehicle. The JV has a contract with HART (Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation) of over USD 1 billion and USD 300 million.
