French company develops rail system in Iran

Teheran-gara_62502979Iran Railways and AREP recently signed an agreement to develop Iran’s main rail stations.
Locating new railway stations in the Iranian capital of Tehran with the aim of improving rail access, and designing multimodal rail stations in the city in order to provide easy access to different rail stations in the urban and suburban transportation system are among the works to be carried out by the French company Arep.
According to the agreement, the company should also develop rail transport systems in other major Iranian cities, like Mashhad and Qom. The entire project is EUR 7 million.
“Tehran and Mashhad are the two most important cities of Iran. Qom is a great theological center. So these three cities want their rail traffic to rise sharply.
The Government pledges  works for the restructuring of rail stations to accommodate increasing passenger flows. The high-speed line linking Tehran and Isfahan, yet to come, will also bring additional travelers. There must be new platforms to receive the “commuters” who take the train daily, but also the long distance passengers. These stations will also be intermodal hubs to connect other means of transport: car, bus, car and metro”, Etienne Tricaud, co-founder of Arep, says in an interview published by SNCF.
“Infrastructure development is a crucial issue for the Iranians. The movement of the inhabitants is difficult today. That is why the government plans large-scale works for the railways. Work has already begun to connect Tehran to Isfahan on high speed rail”, Tricaud adds.
