Renfe has received offers from four major rolling stock manufacturers. The tender also provides for the maintenance of vehicles for 30 years, with possible extension up to 10 years. The aim is to obtain the most efficient and modern train on the market. Alstom , Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarril (CAF), Siemens  and Patentes Talgo submitted their bids.
The Board of Directors of Renfe Operadora approved last November 10, 2015 the purchase of fifteen high-speed trains, with possibility to order up to fifteen additional trains. Also, the maintenance of these trains was requested for a period of 30 years with possibility of extension of 10 years, coinciding with the life of the new trains.
The new fleet of Renfe will incorporate the latest technologies regarding the rolling stock. The new trains will be the fastest of the fleet (320 km / hour), the most efficient in terms of energy consumption and  will provide 100% connectivity for the passengers.
