EVR Cargo transport volume fell in August

Estonia’s state-owned rail freight company EVR Cargo’s cargo transport volume amounted to 1.06 million tonnes in August 2014, a decrease of 5.7% from August last year.
The first eight months’ total volume, 10.14 million tonnes, is by 4.6% less than at the same time last year.
EVR Cargo Board Chairman Ahto Altjõe said that August was also characterized by a decrease of transport of oil products. “In addition to a decrease in Russian transit volumes, the transport of oil products was affected by a fall in the volume of transit goods from Belarus and retail fuel imported from Lithuania to the Estonian retail market,” said Altjõe.
