Bombardier Transportation Canada Inc and Egyptian companies: the Arab Contractors and Orascom Construction Industries will build a monorail line that will connect three cities in the Cairo metropolitan area, Egypt’s Ministry of Housing announced, quoted by Cairo Post.
This will be the first monorail line in Egypt and will connect Cairo, Giza governorates and 6th of October City. The construction is scheduled to start in January 2016 and to end by mid-2018, with a 30-month scheduled timeline. The USD 1.5 billion project aims to serve residential neighborhoods the industrial city.
The new project will include the construction of 17 stations that will be realized in two phases: first, 12 station will be constructed, and after finishing the works, will be launched works for next 5 stations.
