Design contract for Warsaw Modlin Airport rail link signed

Warsaw Modlin Airport rail link The Polish rail infrastructure manager PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe signed a contract for the development of design documentation for the construction of Warsaw Modlin Airport rail link which will ensure the direct connection with Modlin railway station. The contract has been signed with a consortium of Infra – Centrum Doradztwa and YLE Inżynierowie and has a value of PLN 4 million (EUR 927,800). The tender for design documentation was launched in May 2023.

“Preparation of documentation will allow for the construction of a connection between Modlin and the nearby airport. The new railway line will make it easier to combine air and rail travel and transport to the centre of Warsaw, which will actually improve the living conditions of residents,” Arnold Bresch, member of the Management Board of PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe said.

The project consists of the construction of a double-track electrified railway line with a total length of 5.5 km. Under the project, the road system in the town of Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki will be rebuilt, including the construction of collision-free two-level intersections at the junction of the railway line with national road No. 62 and the district road. The contractor will also be responsible for obtaining the administrative decisions, including building permits.

Thanks to the direct Warsaw Modlin Airport rail link, the inhabitants of the Masovian Voivodeship will benefit from fast and convenient railway connections from Modlin station to the airport and the centre of the capital.

“The new railway line to the Modlin airport will contribute to eliminating the transport exclusion of residents who had difficult access to the airport. Travel will be safe, comfortable and predictable,”  Andrzej Bittel, the Secretary of State at the Ministry of Infrastructure said.

The preparation of documentation and the purchase of land will be financed from the Masovian Voivodeship’s own funds provided on the basis of an agreement concluded between PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe and the Marshal’s Office of the Masovian Voivodeship in February this year.

The completion of the design documentation and obtaining a building permit for the new connection is scheduled for the end of 2025, which will enable construction to begin in the following years.
