China and Lithuania to launch new container train

lithuania-containerChina Railway Container Transport Co (CRCT) and Lithuanian Railways discussed the possibility of organizing an international train from China to Europe via Lithuania, with Vilnius and Kaunas terminals offering intermodal services.
During the meeting, the representatives of both companies discussed about the necessity of attracting new cargo flows from Nordic Region, through Lithuania.
“We have great opportunities to offer different range of transport services, by rail, sea including our modern terminals with all services they provide,” Lithuanian Railways general manager Stasys Dailydka said.
When China launched its ambitious strategic initiative ‘One Belt, One Road’, Lithuania was considered as a strategic partner for freight transport within Baltic Region, towards China.
During the meeting, attention was paid to the development of emergent new cargo flows from the Nordic region, attracting cargo through Lithuania and the ability to take advantage of the benefits of intermodal terminals.
