Cambodia will not receive further ADB funding for railway project

cambodiaThe Asian Development Bank will no longer offer fundig to complete the project to rehabilitate Cambodia’s old railway lines, ADB President Takehiko Nakao said. The value of the project is estimated at $142 million dollars (131 million euros).
Currently, the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville line is in operation, while the works for the Phnom Penh-Poipet City line have not been finished. According to estimations, at least $75 million dollars (69 million euros) is needed to finish the line.
“The remaining part of our finance … will be used for taking care of the existing railway, the southern part and the completed part of the northern line,” Takehiko Nakao said.
