Cairo metro train tender launched

Egypt’s National Authority for Tunnels launch the tender for the acquisition of new rolling stock which will operate Cairo metro system.
The tender is divided on two lots. Lot No.1 envisages the supply of 6 train sets (8 coaches per train set) with it’s on board equipment for Cairo Line No. 2, linking Shubra el Kheima and el Monib. Under the second Lot, 2 locomotives will be purchased, also for Greater Cairo Metro Line No.2.
Scope of work under the contracts includes manufacturing, delivery and commissioning of the 6 train sets or 2 diesel locomotives, and the supply of spare parts together with trains or locomotives for the first 10 years of their operation (including 2 years defects notification period) as well as training of the purchaser’s staff and provision of maintenance services during the defect notification period.
Under the contract, the winner will provide maintenance services for the supplied trains or locomotives within 8 years of their operation upon completion of the defects notification period.
Estimated delivery period for train sets is 25th – 27th months and for locomotives – 14th – 17th months after the contracts effective dates.
It is expected that the contracts will be signed in the fourth quarter of 2018. The contract is financed by the EBRD, under a EUR 100 million loan.
Tenders are invited for one or both lots and each lot must be priced separately.
At the beginning of 2017, EBRD announced that it has awarded National Authority for Tunnels a loan for the acquisition of 13 metro trains.
