Auckland receives the first new CAF train

The first of 15 new trains manufactured by CAF has arrived in Auckland from Beasain plant, in northern Spain. The new train will enter tests performed by Auckland Transport and CAF staff.
The AM810 three-car electric train is similar to the existing ones, but with minor changes, such as new seat back covers, changes in the carpet and faster doors to reduce time at stations.
All 15 trains should arrive by July 2020 and will enter services in September 2020.
In 2017, Auckland Transport and CAF signed a contract for the delivery of 15 electric trains valuated at NZD 133 million (USD 84.8 million), including maintenance services provided by the Spanish rolling stock manufacturer.
The new trains will add to the existing 57 trains which arrived in 2014/15, increasing transport capacity on the rail network and help with capacity until the City Rail Link is completed.
