Alstom wins EUR 1.3 billion contract for Grand Paris Express

Alstom was selected by Société du Grand Paris, in agreement with Île-de-France Mobilités, to develop and supply 1,000 cars (183 trains) with an initial order for 150 cars (25 six-car trains) valuated at EUR 280 million. In July, the Board of Directors of Île-de-France Mobilités approved a first tranche of EUR 680 million to cover the necessary expenses to acquire the first 53 trains of the Grand Paris Express.
The total value of the contract is EUR 1.3 billion and it is fully financed by Île-de-France Mobilités.
Alstom will deliver the new vehicles in two versions of different train lengths – of 3 and 6 cars. Each train will be able to transport up to 500 passengers in its three-car version (54 metres), and up to 1,000 passengers in its six-car version (108 metres).
Based on the solutions of Alstom’s Metropolis range and further improved by feedback from its customers, the new metros for lines 15, 16 and 17 will guarantee the highest levels of availability, reliability and security.
The new trains will serve metro lines 15, 16 and 17 of the Grand Paris Express. The new high-capacity steel-wheeled metros will be able to circulate at speeds of up to 110 km/h in automatic driverless mode, taking the form of six-car trains on line 15 and three-car trains on lines 16 and 17.
The new metros are open throughout the entire length of the train, providing comfortable space and, the 3 large doors on each side will increase the passenger fluidity the exits. They will be fitted with air conditioning system, USB charging points mobile phones, video protection system and onboard information systems.
The trains, which will be designed and manufactured by six of Alstom’s sites in France have a recyclability rate of more than 96% and, in line with current European standards, a recovery rate of over 98%.
The first train will be delivered from 2022 onwards and initial entry into commercial service is scheduled for 2024.
