Alstom to supply traffic safety and automation system for Bucharest Metro Line 5

Bucharest metro operator, Metrorex, awarded Alstom Romania the contract for the provision of ”Traffic Safety and Automation System including Train Safety Equipment and Dynamic Information System (including public address system) on Bucharest Metro Line 5 – Drumul Taberei-Pantelimon.  Raul Doamnei-Eroilor (PS Opera) section, including Valea Ialomitei Station and Depot.”

Following the evaluation of the tenders submitted within the contract procedure, the offer of about  EUR 25 million, submitted by Alstom Romania, with the UTI Group as a subcontractor and Alstom France as third party provider, was declared the winning offer.

Section 1 Drumul Taberei – Eroilor of Bucahrest metro Line 5, with a length of 6.8 kilometers, will be served by a depot and ten stations: Raul doamnei, Constantin Brancuşi, Valea Ialomitei, Romancierilor, Drumul Taberei, Drumul Taberei 34, Favorit, Orizont, Academia Militara and Eroilor. The main objective of the new metro project is to facilitate the link between the West and the center of Bucharest city.

The total value of the project of the entire metro line is about RON 3.12 billion, VAT included (EUR 668 million). The project is co-funded from the Cohesion Fund through the Large Infrastructure Operational Program (POIM).

At the end of March, within Metro Line 5, 95.82% of the supporting structure is completed, the groundwork for the rail track laying is 86.30% completed, while finishing work is 50.76% ready.

Metrorex’s latest estimates show that Metro Line 5 – Section 1 Drumul Taberei-Eroilor could enter commercial operation in the first quarter of 2019.
