Additional funds for AdeLINK tram project

adelinkSouth Australian 2016-17 mid-year budget review will include an additional AUD 20 million (USD 14.7 million) investment to purchase three additional trams and construct an additional stop at Festival Plaza under AdeLINK tram project. Works on the new Festival Plaza stop are scheduled to commence in the first quarter of next year and be completed by the end of 2017, weather permitting, the government says.
Following an extensive planning investigation for the first stage of the EastLINK and CityLINK to the East End, construction of the new stop was recommended to ensure better value for taxpayers and minimise future disruption at one of Adelaide’s busiest intersections.
The new stop will also improve access to the Festival Plaza which is being transformed into a world-class destination which will be the heart of Adelaide’s Riverbank entertainment precinct.
The three additional trams will boost capacity on the tram network and complement the existing modern fleet of 21 Flexity and Citadis trams.
