5 companies invited to bid for London Underground new trains

luLondon Underground invited Alstom, Bombardier, CAF, Hitachi and Siemens, the five shortlisted manufacturers, to submit tenders for the delivery of 250 trains under its New Tube for London project. The companies will have to submit their formal bid until this summer, with the contract expected to be awarded in autumn 2017.
The new trains can enter service in 2020. 100 trains will run on the Piccadilly line, 10 for the Waterloo & City line, 100 for the Central line and 40 for the Bakerloo line.
“This invitation to train manufacturers to submit bids for the design and build of the New Tube is a significant step forward,” Nick Brown, managing director of London Underground, said.
