Victorian government backs full Murray Basin Rail Project

murray basinVictorian Prime Minister Daniel Andrews has called for the Federal Government to support the Murray Basin Rail Project, after the state government announced it would deliver $A 220 million (USD 162 million) under the 2015-16 Victorian Budget.
A$30 million (USD 22 million) has already been allocated towards stage one of the project which involves a package of essential maintenance works of the Mildura freight line, between Yelta and Maryborough – this work is already underway and will be completed during 2016.
The total value of the projects is $A 416 million (USD 306 million). Under the project, lines from Geelong to Mildura, Manangatang, Sea Lake and Murrayville will be standardised, and the existing unused standard gauge connection between Maryborough and Ararat will be reopened.
