Thales to provide ETCS Level 2 for Mexico City-Toluca railway line project

Mexico-TolucaThales is to provide its ETCS Level 2 signalling technology for the suburban rail line between Mexico City and Toluca, the capital of the State of México. The contract was awarded to Thales as part of a consortium of Spanish companies and their Mexican subsidiaries.
Thales will deploy its state-of-the-art ETCS Level 2 signalling technology and telecommunications systems including GSM-R. This is the first implementation of the ETCS Level 2 signalling solution in the American continent.
Mexico City-Toluca 57 km rail link is expected to carry 270,000 passengers per day between Mexico City and Toluca, with trains travelling at up to 160 km/h and an end-to-end journey time of 39 minutes.
