SŽDC installs EUR 11 million AVV train autopilot

Cehia-tren_Czech-Republic-City-Elephant-trainThe Railway Infrastructure Administration in the Czech Republic (SŽDC) implemented two projects for installing the line part of the Automatic Train Operation System (AVV). Its main purpose is to increase operation safety, decrease electrical power costs and ensure a better observance of the timetable.
AVV is the system’s superstructure part designed for automatic control of tractive and driving vehicles on the railway network owned by the Czech Republic, designated as CRV&AVV (Central Vehicle Regulator and Automatic Train Operation). AVV contains a regulator of target braking and a regulator of running time. The task of this equipment (in cooperation with CRV) is ensuring automatic train control.
The total cost of the installation of the AVV line part on the TEN-T railway network amounts to CZK169 million (EUR 6 million), VAT excluded. The project was co-financed with CZK130.6 million (EUR 4.8 million) by the European Commission from its Cohesion Funds under the Operational Programme Transport. AŽD Praha was in charge of the construction for this part of the project.
The AVV line part installation outside the TEN-T railway network amouts to CZK 26.6 million (EUR 980 thousands). The co-financing received from the EU amounts to CZK 20 million (EUR 735 thousands). Starmon was in charge for this part of the project. National financing of the projects was provided by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure.
