Spain backs the construction of the Seville-Málaga high-speed line

The Spanish Ministry of Development has stated that the goal of achieving this rail link is to reduce the journey times between Seville and Málaga via the construction of a direct bypass connected to the Madrid-Seville and Córdoba-Málaga high-speed lines.

For the support of the sustainability and motivation of the project, Manuel Niño, Secretary-General for Infrastructure within the Spanish Ministry of Development, met with Felipe López García, Minister of Public Works of the Autonomous Province of Andalusia.

The feasibility study included the definition of several alternative routes that have already passed the appropriate environmental and public information steps. The Ministry of Development states that the designed solution offers maximum capacity guarantees for trains that will serve the demand for transport in the future.

The representative of the Ministry of Development stated that the rail transport route is not an alternative to the proposed highway and supported by the Andalusian government “Transverse Andalusian Axis”.

The rail link between Seville and Málaga, through its strategic nature, is embedded in the regional planning tools, such as a new high-speed line, as it is part of the Mediterranean Trans-European Transport Corridor (TEN-T) Mediterranean Corridor.
The Ministry of Development reiterated its support for the development of the railway line, just as the rail transport infrastructure, promoted by other regional administrations, has been developed.
